Planar Light Valve (PLV)
The PLV is a two-dimensional equivalent of the one-dimensional GLV. It inherits all the desirable properties of the GLV (high speed, high power handling, analog gray-scale) while offering additional desired attributes. The 2D pixel arrangement enables larger pixel counts for continued throughput enhancement. It also increases the optical étendue, allowing use of non-laser (i.e. LED) illumination sources. Lastly, different embodiments of the PLV allow it to function as an amplitude or phase modulator.

Planar Light Valve (PLV)
PLVは一次元の空間光変調器であるGLVを二次元に拡張した変調器です。PLVはGLVの すべての利点（高速変調、高耐パワー性、 中間調表現）を引き継いだまま、更に優れた特性を追加提供しています。2次元のピクセル配置によりピクセル数が増加し、スループットが向上します。また光学的エタンデュ（étendue）を増加させ、非レーザー光源（すなわちLED）の使用を可能にします。最後にPLVは構成を変更することで、振幅変調器だけでなく位相変調器としても使用が可能になります。
